Timeless jewels
“Old is gold” stands true when over hundred-year-old exquisite jewellery pieces leave you awestruck. And what else would you want, when you get to purchase this piece of history and flaunt it wherever you go. At the ongoing “Timeless Jewels 2010” exhibition at Hyatt Regency, the crowd is gathered at the NAC Jewellers stall to shop the century old jewellery collection. Like others, I am also curious to touch these timeless jewels. The owner in a dhoti-kurta, N Ananthapadmanabhan smiles and shows me a necklace with a big pendant. “The huge pendant in the rakodi (necklace) used to be a head ornament that was worn during Gupta and Pallava periods to simulate aura. Set in Burmese rubies and uncut diamonds, the necklace has been adapted in the current times as a pendant. The accompanying chain with the pendant is the traditional nagas style hand made workmanship,” tells Ananthapadmanabhan, who has been collecting rare jewellery pieces since a little over a decade.

Rise & rise of Rahul Gandhi
Even the worst critics of Rahul Gandhi (RG) admit readily that he has grown tremendously in stature and persona over the years. His sobriety, balance, equipoise, transparent humility, willingness to experiment, to be deferential, steadfastness and relentless pursuit of grassroots connectivity have all undoubtedly contributed to his current situation in the Indian polity. But perhaps the single most important reason is that he has never treated politics or public life as a vehicle for power and is happy — indeed obstinately so — to keep away from all pelf, power and position and do public service while strengthening the Congress Party. Abhishek Manu Singhvi writes more.
